Chive Companion Plants.

Broccoli, cabbage, carrots (improves both growth and flavor), eggplant, fruit trees, grapes (repels aphids), kohlrabi, mustard, parsley, peppers, potatoes, rhubarb, roses, squash, strawberries and tomatoes are good companions for chives.


Good Companions for Chives.

Planting beets or carrots near chives will be beneficial to the growth of your chive plants.

Chives when planted amongst carrots will confuse both onion and carrot flies. However, the carrots need to be allowed to bloom to see the benefit. Wild carrot or Queen Anne's Lace will provide the same benefits.

Bad Companions for Chive.

Asparagus, beans, parsley, peas and spinach should not be planted near chives.

Chives & Disease Control.

Chives will help prevent both apple scab disease and black spot on your roses but the plants may need to be several years old before becoming effective.

Chive tea, made from boiling chopped chives in water, can be used to help combat downy and powdery mildew on cucumbers and gooseberries.

Chive repels many harmful insects.

Chive repels aphids, beetles, cabbage worms, Japanese beetles and slugs.
